DAY 1

Edinburgh → Stirling Castle → Loch Lomond → Tyndrum → Bridge of Orchy → Rannoch Moor → Buachaille Etive Mòr → Meeting of Three Waters → Three Sisters of Glencoe → Loch Achtriochtan → Glencoe → Fort William

Our journey begins in Edinburgh and heads towards the Highlands, with our first stop at Stirling Castle for views, photographs and our first glimpse into Scotland’s dramatic history.

From here, we continue towards Loch Lomond, stopping along the loch and at selected viewpoints whenever the landscape calls for it. This is where the journey begins to slow down — because for us, Scotland is not simply about getting from one famous place to another.

We continue through Tyndrum, where we’ll stop for a relaxed break, something to eat or a coffee, before heading towards Bridge of Orchy and out across the vast open landscape of Rannoch Moor.

From here, the road itself becomes part of the experience. We pass beneath the unmistakable shape of Buachaille Etive Mòr and enter Glencoe, stopping along the way at some of its most beautiful viewpoints, including the Meeting of Three Waters, the Three Sisters of Glencoe and Loch Achtriochtan.

By late afternoon we reach Fort William, where the rest of the day is yours to slow down, wander along the pedestrianised centre, browse the shops, find a pub or simply enjoy dinner after our first full day together.

1. NAP

Utazásunk Edinburghból indul a Felföld irányába. Első megállónk Stirling vára, ahol kívülről megcsodáljuk a várat, fotózunk, és máris kapunk egy kis ízelítőt Skócia különleges történelméből.

Innen Loch Lomond felé folytatjuk utunkat, ahol a tóparton és az útba eső kilátópontokon is megállunk, amikor a táj megkívánja. Nálunk ugyanis Skócia nem egyszerűen arról szól, hogy egyik híres helytől eljussunk a következőig.

Tyndrumban tartunk egy kényelmes pihenőt, ahol lehetőség lesz enni, kávézni és egy kicsit megállni, mielőtt Bridge of Orchy után megérkezünk Rannoch Moor hatalmas, nyers tájába.

Innentől maga az út is az élmény része. Elhaladunk a jellegzetes Buachaille Etive Mòr mellett, majd megérkezünk Glencoe-ba, ahol több helyen is megállunk: többek között a Meeting of Three Watersnél, a Three Sisters of Glencoe-nál és Loch Achtriochtan környékén.

Késő délután érkezünk Fort Williambe. Itt már lehet lassítani: séta a sétálóutcán, üzletek, egy hangulatos pub vagy egy közös vacsora zárhatja az első teljes napunkat.

DAY 2

Fort William → Laggan Dam → Pattack Falls → Highland viewpoints → Glenfinnan Viaduct → Loch Ness → Urquhart Castle → Drumnadrochit

Leaving Fort William behind, we head deeper into the Highlands towards Laggan, where the landscape changes once again.

Our route takes us to Laggan Dam and Pattack Falls, with time for short walks, photographs and the smaller scenic stops that are so easily missed when the only goal is reaching the next destination.

We then cross back towards one of Scotland’s most recognisable sights: Glenfinnan Viaduct. Here we take our time to experience the landscape rather than simply photograph it and move on.

Later, our journey turns towards Loch Ness. We follow the loch through changing Highland scenery, stopping at viewpoints when conditions allow, before reaching the atmospheric ruins of Urquhart Castle.

This time we don’t just admire the castle from the road — we go inside and explore it.

We finish the day around Drumnadrochit, on the shores of Loch Ness.

2. NAP

Fort William → Laggan Dam → Pattack Falls → felföldi kilátópontok → Glenfinnan Viaduct → Loch Ness → Urquhart Castle → Drumnadrochit

Fort Williamből továbbindulunk a Felföld belseje felé, Laggan irányába, ahol ismét egészen más arcát mutatja Skócia.

Útközben érintjük a Laggan Dam környékét és a Pattack Fallst, ahol rövid sétára, fotózásra és nézelődésre is lesz idő. És természetesen itt sem csak a nagy neveket keressük: ha az út mellett egy kilátópont vagy egy olyan hely vár ránk, ahol egyszerűen muszáj megállni, akkor megállunk.

Innen visszafordulunk Skócia egyik legismertebb látványossága, a Glenfinnan Viaduct felé. Itt nem csak kiszállunk egy gyors fényképre — hagyunk időt arra is, hogy megéljük a hely hangulatát.

Ezután Loch Ness felé vesszük az irányt. A tó mentén haladva az időjárástól és a látási viszonyoktól függően több kilátópontnál is megállhatunk, majd elérjük Urquhart Castle romjait.

A várat ezúttal nemcsak kívülről nézzük meg: be is megyünk, és közelebbről is felfedezzük.

A napot Drumnadrochit környékén, Loch Ness mellett zárjuk.

DAY 3

Drumnadrochit → Loch Ness viewpoints → Invermoriston → Old Bridge of Invermoriston → Fort Augustus → Loch Cluanie → Cluanie Inn → Glen Shiel → Chocolates of Glenshiel → Five Sisters of Kintail → Loch Duich → Eilean Donan Castle → Kyle of Lochalsh → Skye Bridge → Kyleakin → Portree

Today we leave Drumnadrochit and follow Loch Ness south, stopping at selected viewpoints along the water before reaching Invermoriston and its beautiful old stone bridge.

From there we continue towards Fort Augustus before turning west into another part of the Highlands.

The road follows Loch Cluanie, surrounded by mountains and wide-open Highland scenery. We stop around Cluanie for photographs, a coffee and time to simply take in the landscape before continuing through Glen Shiel.

Along the way we’ll also stop around Chocolates of Glenshiel, where a short wander takes us beside the rocky, tumbling river — one of those smaller places that rarely appear on a traditional itinerary but is exactly why we travel this way.

The mountains of the Five Sisters of Kintail accompany us towards Loch Duich, and then one of Scotland’s most photographed castles finally appears ahead of us: Eilean Donan Castle.

Here we stop properly and go inside to explore.

Afterwards we continue through Kyle of Lochalsh and cross the Skye Bridge. A stop around Kyleakin gives us our first real taste of island life before we continue north to Portree, our base for the next part of the journey.

3. NAP

Drumnadrochit → Loch Ness kilátópontjai → Invermoriston → Old Bridge of Invermoriston → Fort Augustus → Loch Cluanie → Cluanie Inn → Glen Shiel → Chocolates of Glenshiel → Five Sisters of Kintail → Loch Duich → Eilean Donan Castle → Kyle of Lochalsh → Skye Bridge → Kyleakin → Portree

Drumnadrochitból Loch Ness partja mentén indulunk dél felé. Útközben több kilátópontnál is megállhatunk, majd elérjük Invermoristont és annak gyönyörű régi kőhídját.

Innen Fort Augustus felé haladunk tovább, majd nyugatnak fordulunk, és ismét egészen más felföldi táj vesz körül minket.

Loch Cluanie mellett vezet tovább az utunk, hegyek és hatalmas, nyitott tájak között. Cluanie környékén megállunk fotózni, kávézni és egyszerűen csak nézni azt, ami körülvesz bennünket, majd Glen Shiel felé folytatjuk utunkat.

Útközben megállunk a Chocolates of Glenshiel környékén is, ahonnan egy rövid sétával elérhető a sziklák között futó, vad folyószakasz. Pont az ilyen kisebb helyek azok, amelyek sok hagyományos útitervből kimaradnak — nálunk viszont az út ugyanúgy része a történetnek, mint az úti cél.

A Five Sisters of Kintail hegyei mellett haladva elérjük Loch Duich környékét, majd egyszer csak előttünk áll Skócia egyik legismertebb látványa: Eilean Donan Castle.

Itt rendesen megállunk, és a kastélyba is bemegyünk.

Ezután Kyle of Lochalsh felé folytatjuk utunkat, átkelünk a Skye Bridge-en, Kyleakin környékén pedig megtartjuk első igazi szigeti megállónkat. Innen Portree felé vesszük az irányt, amely a következő napok bázisa lesz.

DAY 4

Portree → The Storr → Kilt Rock & Mealt Falls → An Corran Beach → Staffin → Quiraing → Uig → Rha Waterfalls → Fairy Glen → Portree

Today belongs to northern Skye and the extraordinary Trotternish Peninsula.

Leaving Portree, our first stop is The Storr. Rather than turning the day into a demanding climb, we take in this unmistakable landscape from below and from selected viewpoints before continuing north.

Next come the dramatic cliffs of Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls, followed by An Corran Beach at Staffin — a stretch of coastline where ancient dinosaur footprints have been discovered.

From here we head towards the extraordinary landscape of the Quiraing, where landslides, ridges and strange rock formations have created scenery that seems almost unreal.

We then continue towards Uig and make our way into the woodland to discover Rha Waterfalls, before finishing our island loop among the strange miniature hills of the Fairy Glen.

In the evening we return to Portree.

4. NAP

Portree → The Storr → Kilt Rock & Mealt Falls → An Corran Beach → Staffin → Quiraing → Uig → Rha Waterfalls → Fairy Glen → Portree

Ez a nap Skye északi részéről és a különleges Trotternish-félszigetről szól.

Portree-ból indulva első megállónk a The Storr. Nem csinálunk belőle kötelező, komoly hegymászást: alulról és a kiválasztott kilátópontokról élvezzük ennek az ikonikus sziklaformációnak a látványát. Maga a teljes Storr-séta már önmagában több kilométeres program lenne. 

Innen Kilt Rock és Mealt Falls drámai tengerparti szikláihoz indulunk, majd következik Staffin és An Corran Beach, ahol ősi dinoszaurusz-lábnyomokat is találtak.

Ezután a Quiraing egészen különös tája vár ránk: hegygerincek, sziklaformációk és földcsuszamlások által kialakított táj, amely néha szinte valószerűtlennek hat.

Uig felé folytatjuk utunkat, majd besétálunk az erdőbe a Rha Waterfallshoz. A nap utolsó különleges helyszíne a Fairy Glen apró, kúpos dombokkal tarkított tája lesz.

Este visszatérünk Portree-ba.

DAY 5

Portree → Dunvegan → Dunvegan Castle → Neist Point → Fairy Pools → Glen Brittle → Sligachan → Portree

Today we explore Skye’s western side.

We begin towards Dunvegan and, when seasonal opening and conditions allow, have the opportunity to explore Dunvegan Castle and its surroundings.

From there we continue west towards Neist Point, where the cliffs fall dramatically towards the Atlantic and the lighthouse stands at one of Skye’s most unforgettable coastal locations.

Later, the landscape changes again as we make our way towards Glen Brittle and the Fairy Pools — clear mountain pools and waterfalls beneath the Cuillin.

Our final major stop is Sligachan, where the old stone bridge, river and the dark Cuillin mountains create one of those unmistakably Scottish scenes that deserves more than a photograph through a window.

From here we return to Portree for our final evening on Skye.

5. NAP

Portree → Dunvegan → Dunvegan Castle → Neist Point → Fairy Pools → Glen Brittle → Sligachan → Portree

Ezen a napon Skye nyugati oldalát fedezzük fel.

Dunvegan felé indulunk, ahol a szezonális nyitvatartástól és az aktuális körülményektől függően lehetőségünk lesz Dunvegan Castle és környékének felfedezésére.

Innen továbbhaladunk nyugat felé Neist Pointhoz, ahol a sziklák meredeken zuhannak az Atlanti-óceán felé, a világítótorony pedig Skye egyik legkülönlegesebb tengerparti helyén áll.

Később ismét megváltozik körülöttünk a táj: Glen Brittle és a Fairy Pools felé indulunk, ahol a Cuillin-hegység alatt kristálytiszta hegyi medencék és kisebb vízesések követik egymást.

A nap egyik utolsó nagy megállója Sligachan lesz, ahol a régi kőhíd, a folyó és a háttérben magasodó Cuillin együtt adja azt a látványt, amely mellett egyszerűen nem akarunk csak úgy elhajtani.

Innen Portree-ba térünk vissza, ahol utolsó esténket töltjük Skye-on.

DAY 6

Portree → Kyleakin → Skye Bridge → Kyle of Lochalsh → Loch Duich → Glen Shiel → Highland viewpoints → Fort William → Glencoe → Rannoch Moor → Bridge of Orchy → Tyndrum

Today we say goodbye to Skye — but certainly not to the Highlands.

After leaving Portree, we cross the island towards Kyleakin and the Skye Bridge, stopping along the way whenever the landscape gives us a reason to.

Back on the mainland, we travel through Kyle of Lochalsh, alongside Loch Duich and back through the mountains of Glen Shiel, with further scenic stops and viewpoints along the route.

Later we reach Fort William, where we deliberately leave time for lunch, a relaxed walk and souvenir shopping. This is not a rushed fuel stop — it is time to enjoy the town and pick up something to take home from the Highlands.

From Fort William we return through Glencoe, allowing the landscape another chance to surprise us in different light and weather.

We continue across Rannoch Moor and through Bridge of Orchy before ending our final Highland evening around Tyndrum.

6. NAP

Portree → Kyleakin → Skye Bridge → Kyle of Lochalsh → Loch Duich → Glen Shiel → felföldi kilátópontok → Fort William → Glencoe → Rannoch Moor → Bridge of Orchy → Tyndrum

Ezen a reggelen elbúcsúzunk Skye-tól — de a Felföldtől még korántsem.

Portree-ból Kyleakin és a Skye Bridge felé indulunk, és természetesen ezen az úton is megállunk ott, ahol a táj okot ad rá.

A szárazföldre visszaérve Kyle of Lochalsh, Loch Duich és Glen Shiel hegyei között vezet tovább az utunk, újabb kilátópontokkal és spontán fotómegállókkal.

Később Fort Williambe érkezünk, ahol szándékosan hagyunk időt ebédre, egy kényelmes sétára és szuvenírvásárlásra. Ez nem egy gyors benzinkutas megálló: legyen idő egy kicsit élvezni a várost, és akár hazavinni valamit a Felföldből.

Fort Williamből ismét Glencoe felé indulunk. Ugyanaz a táj más fényben, más időjárásban egészen más arcát tudja mutatni — ezért nálunk nem probléma, ha egy gyönyörű helyet kétszer látunk.

Rannoch Moor és Bridge of Orchy érintésével végül Tyndrum környékén zárjuk utolsó felföldi esténket.

DAY 7

Tyndrum → Kilmahog → Highland Coos → Callander → Edinburgh Old Town → Edinburgh Castle → Royal Mile → Victoria Street → Greyfriars Bobby → Edinburgh

Our final morning begins in Tyndrum as we slowly make our way back towards Edinburgh.

But Scotland has one more very hairy surprise waiting for us.

At Kilmahog we stop to meet the Highland coos — with time for photographs, a coffee, a break and, when possible, the chance to get a little closer to these unmistakable Scottish characters.

From here we continue towards Edinburgh for the final chapter of our journey.

Once in the Old Town, the choice becomes yours. You may wish to visit Edinburgh Castle, wander down the Royal Mile, discover colourful Victoria Street, find Greyfriars Bobby or simply disappear into the closes, shops and cafés of the historic centre for a while.

This part of the day is deliberately more flexible. Everyone is given an agreed meeting time and place, allowing you to experience your final hours in Scotland in your own way.

Then we meet again one last time.

Seven days, countless roads, lochs, mountains, waterfalls, castles and unexpected stops later, our Classic Scotland Journey comes to an end.

Utolsó reggelünk Tyndrumból indul, ahonnan lassan Edinburgh felé vesszük az irányt.

Kilmahognál megállunk a Highland coóknál. Lesz idő fotózni, kávézni, pihenni, és amikor lehetőség van rá, egy kicsit közelebbről is megismerkedni ezekkel az összetéveszthetetlen skót figurákkal.

Innen Edinburgh felé folytatjuk utunkat, ahol közös történetünk utolsó fejezete vár ránk.
